The Thomasville Middle School "Student of the Month" for March 2017 was announced April 7: Carter Hankins. "Carter is responsible and trustworthy with tasks and labs," said Cyndi Brooks, sixth grade Earth and Space Science teacher. "He goes above and beyond expectations and excels. His candid expressions, clever comments, and interest level in the subject matter make him a joy to teach and a personality to be remembered with fondness." He is the son of Jack and Denita Hankins. Carter (center) is pictured with Maggie Scarbrough, SGA vice president; and Thomas Reid, SGA president.

MATH HOOPS POST-TEST

The Thomasville Middle School 7th grade gifted students recently participated in the Southeast Alabama Model United Nations (SAMUN) at Troy University in Troy, Al. These students were assigned 3 different countries in which they had to research and write a resolution for a problem faced by their country. While at Troy University, each country was required to present their resolution and be prepared to defend it against other countries. Students were also required to dress in their countries attire, one student had to give a speech in their countries native language, and each country had to make a flag that was placed on their table at SAMUN. Since this was our first year participating in this event at Troy University, we all knew that we would have a lot to learn. I am very proud to report that we received "2" awards!

The Clarke County EMA Director, Roy Waite, visited with Mrs. Hurley's 5th and 6th grade gifted students today. He was able to provide them with many facts about the unit they are currently investigating on "Natural Disasters". Students were prepared with a list of questions ranging from what natural disasters do the people of Clarke County have the danger of facing most often to how long and why Mr. Waite chose to be an EMA Director.
